Your Brow Lamination & Lash Lift Aftercare Plan
Share
To make your brow lamination and lash lift last 6 to 8 weeks, the first 48 hours are critical: keep them completely dry, avoid all makeup, don't rub or touch them, and sleep on your back. After that, maintain them daily with a clean spoolie brush and nourishing conditioning serum free of oils, sulfates, and parabens. Oil-based products are the number one enemy of your treatment because they break down the bonds that create your lift, causing them to fall flat prematurely.
In this guide, I'll walk you through the complete aftercare plan that will keep your brows and lashes looking fantastic for weeks to come, from the critical first two days to daily maintenance and product choices. You're glowing. You just left the salon, and every time you catch your reflection, you can't help but smile. Your brows are perfectly sculpted, and your lashes have that gorgeous, effortless lift.
I'm Rue, one of the estheticians here at The Secret Garden Salon & Spa with six years of experience specializing in lash lifts, brow lamination, and facial treatments. I see that post-treatment happiness every single day, and the first question I always get is, "Okay, how do I make this last as long as possible?"
Why Are the First 48 Hours So Critical?
Think of the first two days after your treatment as the "setting" period. The solutions we use are still working their magic, and the bonds that create that perfect shape are solidifying. What you do during this time is absolutely critical. Mess with them now, and you could undo all that beautiful work.
It's pretty simple. For the next 48 hours, you have one job: leave them alone.
Here's your "Do Not" list:
- Don't get them wet. This is the big one. No washing your face with splashing water, no swimming, and be extra careful in the shower. A steamy bathroom is not your friend right now.
- Don't use makeup. Avoid mascara, brow pencils, and any creams or serums around the eye area.
- Don't rub or touch them. It's tempting, I know! But rubbing can mess with the shape and cause irritation.
- Don't sleep on your face. Try to sleep on your back or side to avoid squishing your lashes and brows against the pillow.
Basically, treat them like a delicate work of art. Because they are.
Celestine Thorne came in last November for her first lash lift and brow lamination. She was so excited about the results. "This is exactly what I wanted," she said, examining her lifted lashes in the mirror. "They look so much longer without extensions."
"They look amazing," I agreed. "Now let me tell you how to keep them looking this good." I walked her through the 48-hour rules carefully. "No water, no makeup, no touching, and try to sleep on your back."
She nodded along. "That doesn't sound too hard."
Two days later, she called the salon. "I messed up," she said, sounding upset. "I forgot and washed my face this morning. Like, really washed it. With water and cleanser. Did I ruin everything?"
"When did you get the treatment done?" I asked.
"Tuesday afternoon," she said.
I looked at the calendar. "So this morning was Thursday. You made it 36 hours."
"Is that good enough?" she asked nervously.
"It's not ideal," I said honestly. "The bonds were almost fully set, but not quite. You might notice your lift doesn't last the full 6 to 8 weeks. It might be more like 5 weeks."
And that's exactly what happened. When she came back five weeks later for a refresh, her lift had definitely started to drop. "I learned my lesson," she told me. "Next time, I'm setting alarms on my phone to remind me not to wash my face for two full days."
"That's actually a great idea," I laughed. "A lot of my clients do that."
Her second treatment, she followed the rules perfectly. Eight weeks later when she came in, her lashes still had visible lift. "See the difference?" I asked. "That's what proper aftercare does."
What Should Your Daily Aftercare Routine Look Like?
Once you've cleared that 48-hour mark, you can relax a little. Now, your focus shifts from protecting to maintaining. Healthy, hydrated hair is happy hair, and that goes for your lashes and brows too.
Your new daily routine is simple: condition and brush.
Every day, use a clean spoolie brush to gently brush your lashes upward and your brows into their desired shape. This keeps them looking neat and tidy. Then, apply a nourishing conditioning serum. The treatments, while amazing, can be a bit drying. A good serum puts that moisture right back, preventing brittleness and breakage. It's like using conditioner on the hair on your head, an essential step you just don't skip.
Paloma Sinclair came in last August for a lash lift and tint. She loved the results but came back only four weeks later with lashes that looked dry and brittle. "What happened?" she asked, disappointed. "They looked so good at first, but now they feel crunchy and some of them are breaking."
I examined her lashes. They were definitely dry and damaged. "Have you been conditioning them?" I asked.
"Conditioning them?" she repeated. "I didn't know I was supposed to do that."
"Did we not give you aftercare instructions?" I asked, concerned.
"You did," she admitted. "But I guess I didn't read them carefully. I thought I just had to avoid water for two days and then I was good."
"The conditioning is crucial," I explained. "The treatment solution can be drying. Without daily conditioning, your lashes get brittle and break, which is what's happening now."
I sent her home with our lash and brow conditioning serum and showed her exactly how to apply it. "Every single day," I emphasized. "Morning or night, doesn't matter. Just don't skip it."
Six weeks later, she came back for her next lift. Her lashes looked healthy and strong again. "I used that serum religiously," she told me. "I can't believe what a difference it made. My lashes feel soft again."
"That's the power of proper aftercare," I said. "This time, your results are going to last the full 6 to 8 weeks."
What Products Should You Use (and Avoid)?
This is where so many people go wrong. You can't just grab any old serum off the shelf. The skin around your eyes is incredibly delicate, and using the wrong ingredients can not only ruin your results but also cause serious irritation.
At The Secret Garden, we are all about clean, effective beauty. We choose organic and vegan products because they work in harmony with your body, not against it.
When you're looking at labels, here are the good guys you want to see: Peptides (building blocks for protein that help strengthen your natural lashes and brows), plant-derived oils like castor oil (fantastic for deep conditioning), hyaluronic acid (draws moisture into the hair), and vitamin E (nourishes and protects from environmental damage).
Now for the important part. If you see any of these on a label, put it back on the shelf immediately: Oils in cleansers or makeup removers (the number one enemy of your treatment, they break down the bonds), sulfates and alcohols (incredibly drying), parabens (can cause irritation), and prostaglandins (found in some lash growth serums, can have serious side effects including changing eye color).
We carry a carefully curated selection of aftercare products right here in the salon that are free of all this junk. We've done the research so you don't have to.
Saffron Landry learned this lesson the expensive way. She came in last September for a lash lift and absolutely loved it. But three weeks later, she was back with lashes that had completely lost their lift. "I don't understand," she said, frustrated. "I followed all the rules. I didn't get them wet for 48 hours. I've been conditioning them every day. But they're flat again."
"What are you using to remove your makeup?" I asked.
"Just my regular makeup remover," she said. "The same one I always use."
"Can you show me the bottle?" I asked.
She pulled it up on her phone. I looked at the ingredients. "This is oil-based," I said. "See? Mineral oil is the second ingredient."
Her face fell. "Oil is bad?"
"Oil is terrible for lash lifts," I explained. "It breaks down the bonds we created. You've basically been undoing your treatment every single night when you remove your makeup."
"I had no idea," she said. "I thought as long as I avoided water for the first two days, I was fine."
I set her up with our oil-free, micellar water makeup remover. "Use this from now on. And unfortunately, you'll need to get another lift done to restore what the oil removed."
She came back two weeks later for a new treatment. This time, she used only the oil-free products I'd recommended. When she came in eight weeks later, her lashes still had their lift. "I'm a believer now," she told me. "The right products really do matter."

How Do You Handle New Jersey Humidity?
If you live anywhere from Marlboro to Manalapan, you know our New Jersey summers are no joke. That thick, humid air can feel like you're walking through a cloud. And guess what? It can affect your lashes and brows.
Humidity is moisture, and as we know, moisture can weaken the bonds of your treatment over time, potentially causing them to droop or lose their shape faster. But don't worry, you don't have to hide inside all summer.
Just be a little more mindful. Keep the area dry by gently blotting with a clean tissue if you get sweaty. Brushing them with a spoolie becomes even more important to redefine their shape. Some of our clients love using a clear, humidity-resistant sealant as an extra layer of protection on those super muggy days.
Common Lash & Brow Questions
Will a lash lift or brow lamination damage my natural hair?
Not when it's done by a trained professional who uses high-quality products at our Marlboro salon. The damage really comes from improper aftercare like rubbing your eyes, using harsh products, or trying to do it yourself at home, so following proper care instructions is essential to keeping your natural lashes and brows healthy.
Can I still wear mascara?
Yes, and after the first 48 hours you can absolutely wear mascara. Just make sure it's a water-based, oil-free formula, and please avoid waterproof mascara because the removal process is way too harsh and will strip your lashes and undo your lift.
How long will it really last?
A lash lift and tint or brow lamination typically lasts about 6 to 8 weeks depending entirely on your personal hair growth cycle. Following this aftercare plan will ensure you get the maximum time out of every single treatment, and taking care of your skin with services like a HydraFacial can also help by providing a better foundation for healthy hair follicles.
